Help with 2 historic sites

Started by: JR (526)

Can anyone help to exactly pinpoint the locations of 2 sites?
The first one is the site of the Maypole Morris Dancers ground at or near Abram.
The second is the site of the 1972 Bickershaw Festival. I actually went to the festival and remember the general location but I'm not sure which field it was in.
Any help would be appreciated.

JR I remember about 25 years ago the Morris Dancers rejuvinating their dancing ground that hadn't been used in yonks. I may be wrong here but i recall they'd start a little dance there then merrily proceed along the main road via the local pubs getting more merry. Anyroad, It's down Park Lane.

Morris dancing was banned in the 17th century by religious puritans because it was Pagan.
Nowadays, it's allowed but you can't do it with the traditional black face, because it's 'racist'.

So, if you can't morris dance with a black face, does that mean black people are banned from morris dancing? Because that IS racist !

The Bickershaw festival was around what is now Forresters Close. On the right before you go over the bridge. As the map shows the Maypole land is on the right hand side going up Park Lane. I was brought up in Abram and I never remember anyone talking about Morris Dancers.
